Auditory Indication: Should Vape Crackle?

A crackling sound when you take a puff from a vape is typically normal and can indicate that the device is functioning as it should. This crackling happens because the coil heats up and vaporizes the e-liquid, creating tiny explosions of liquid hitting the heated surface. Here’s what the crackling sound might mean:

  1. Normal Vaporization Process: The e-liquid droplets are quickly heated and turned into vapor, causing a crackling or popping sound. This is especially common in devices with sub-ohm coils, which tend to produce larger vapor clouds.

  2. Coil and Wattage: The type of coil and the wattage setting can affect how much crackling you hear. High-wattage settings and low-resistance (sub-ohm) coils often produce more crackling as they heat up more liquid at once.

  3. Wicking Efficiency: If the coil is properly saturated with e-liquid, you’re likely to hear consistent crackling. Dry or improperly wicked coils, on the other hand, might produce an unusual popping or burnt taste instead.

  4. E-liquid Composition: High VG (vegetable glycerin) e-liquids are thicker and might produce more crackling because they take a bit more time to heat up and vaporize.

If the sound becomes excessive or is accompanied by leaking, burnt taste, or unusually hot vapor, it might indicate a problem with the device, such as too much e-liquid on the coil, over-priming, or an issue with the coil itself.
